At the 2021 annual meeting of the International Electrotechnical Commission IEC/SC37A "Low Voltage Surge Protective device (SPD)" held a few days ago, Chinese first international standard proposal in the field of IEC low voltage surge protective devices was approved, and its name and number are: IEC TS 61643-05 "Low voltage surge protective devices-Part 05: Monitoring device of Surge protective devices (MDS)-Requirements and test methods".

  Based on China's technical accumulation and long-term practice in the field of intelligent SPD, the project is a technical specification formulated for the main component of intelligent SPD - surge protector monitoring device. The main technical contents include: monitoring the performance index and working state of surge protectors (SPD), the performance requirements and test methods of the monitoring device (MDS) that communicates with the host computer.

  The successful establishment of this international standard not only indicates that China's low-voltage surge protector technology has gained a leading position in the international standard, but also shows that the intelligent SPD products developed and marketed by Chinese manufacturers have been recognized by the international market. The standard will not only improve the technical response ability of China's lightning protection industry in the international trade market, but also become an important milestone for China to use advanced technology to ensure lightning protection public safety.
